Here’s the New iPhone AD and Our Thoughts on the Keynote

Alright, the keynote is all done, but there’s plenty more to cover. The new iPhone ad is now available online at YouTube.com and we’ve posted it here. But we also wanted to focus on the idea that the keynote was nothing special (in a way).

By all means, Steve Jobs brought everything we wanted (except iChat video for iPhone). But he wasn’t able to surprise with anything. Even Snow Leopard, the other operating system, was expected to come out at this keynote. Nonetheless, we’re quite happy with the keynote and excited about Apple’s future.

The New 3G iPhone? Pictures Included!

Pictures that were supposedly leaked through CrunchGear earlier today had quite the convincing group of photos of the new 3G iPhone. They’re by far some of the most interesting photos released yet and depict a new black and red colored iPhone. Unfortunately, we think you should wait before assuming these are the real deal.

Without fail, rumor sites glommed onto the new photos depicting our long-awaited 3G iPhone. In an unusual spectacle, CrunchGear, which doesn’t tend to focus on Apple rumor stories released a group of 9 photos. The photos showed back and front of black and red 16 GB iPhones. The photos also show a new feature, iPhone video chat through the iChat client (or so it’s assumed). The phone would supposedly do this through a front side camera that could focus on the users face.

iphone2_1.jpg

At first they appear to be the real deal and quite convincing. But look closer and the flaws seem to come clear. In general, the pictures are quite choppy and depict the iPhones in non-Apple standard design. Then there’s the fact that the Product (RED) iPhone doesn’t actually say “Product (Red),” it simply reads, “(RED).” All other “(RED)” products have the “Product” title ahead of “(RED).” But by far the most troubling aspect of these pictures is the fact that the RED iPhone doesn’t have a Hold Switch at the top of the iPhone, unlike its counterpart.

img_0473.jpg

I guess will have to wait two more days until we see the finished product!

P.S. Apple has consistently demanded, by penalty of law, to remove product pictures that have been leaked. So theoretically, these photos would’ve been removed by now if they were the real deal.

Finally, Subcribe to Apple’s Keynote Speeches

Keynote speeches offer a hint as to where Apple is going and what they are just around the corner from releasing. They’re one of the most sought after videos released from Apple. Finally, users of iTunes can subscribe, for free, to the keynote speeches by Steve Jobs and other important speakers.

It’s been a long time coming, and for some reason Apple has continuously changed how they’ve delivered keynote speeches to viewers. They used to be live, but now people have to wait until the presentation is over to view video of the presentation.

keynotepodcast.jpgApple’s new keynote subscription function currently has a couple MWSF (MacWorld San Francisco) keynotes and the iPhone software roadmap (a great video that introduces the App store). Click here to go directly to the iTunes link. By subscribing to the podcast, you should also receive the WWDC keynote speech by Steve Jobs on Monday, June 9th.

Broad Market Losses, but Apple was a Buy

It was hard to look past the markets more than 300 point decline due to jobless claims and oils $10+ leap per barrel in one day. But something was quite curious about Apple’s stock. It was down, and down more than $3 per share going into the WWDC.

While almost the entire market suffered losses, Apple should have been bought. We’re going into a weekend before the WWDC, when speculation will run rampant and more news will hit the street. Then on Monday, Steve Jobs will be set to take the stage in one of the most anticipated keynote speeches ever.

Set to release an updated 3G iPhone, possible operating system information (i.e. rumors about OS X 10.6 - Snow Leopard), information on a new .Mac platform, and a host of new revisions, Jobs is going to have plenty to show the street.

Apple Launches Back to School Promo

This year Apple got an early start to their Back to School promotion that’s usually just a free iPod Nano after rebates. Fortunately, this year’s deal also applies to iPod Nanos and Touches.

The rebate can be applied to either iPod and is good for a $299 total cost for the iPod. That’s essentially the cost of the 8 GB iPod Touch.

Buy a qualifying Mac and iPod with your Apple education discount from June 3, 2008, through September 15, 2008, while supplies last, and be eligible for a rebate up to $299.

promo_bts20080609.jpgThe free iPod deal each year before school is a great deal, but this one creates the most bang for your buck when buying your Apple computer. For instance, the basic MacBook costs $999 with the educational discount and the $299 Mail-in-rebate will apply to an iPod Touch purchase. Looking on eBay, one would say a brand new iPod Touch (8 GB) would sell for about $230. This essentially brings the purchase of a Mac to $770 (before all fees and taxes). Not a bad deal!

Click here for link to Back to School Promo.
